Trip Logistics and Safety

What class of rapids are on the Salmon River?

The Salmon River, particularly the Lower Salmon, features a range of rapids, primarily Class II and Class III, which are exciting but manageable. During higher water in the spring, some sections can reach Class IV. We select trip itineraries and launch dates based on water levels and group experience to ensure an appropriate and thrilling experience.

How safe is whitewater rafting?

While whitewater rafting involves inherent risks, safety is our number one priority. Our guides are highly trained professionals, certified in Swiftwater Rescue, First Aid, and CPR. We use top-quality, meticulously maintained equipment and adhere to strict safety protocols. We conduct a thorough safety talk before every trip.

What kind of boats do you use?

We use self-bailing rafts suitable for the Salmon River. Our specific rafts are made by Aire and Maravia, two of the best raft manufactures in the world. Depending on the water level and the specific trip, we use oar boats (rowed by a guide), paddle boats (where participants paddle under a guide's direction), and inflatable kayaks (duckies).

Are children allowed to participate?

Yes, we welcome families! The minimum age varies by river section and current water levels. Typically, our minimum age is 6-8 years old on standard summer trips, but this can increase during high-water periods. Please contact us to discuss the best trip option for your family.

Gear and What to Bring

What should I wear on the river?

For warm weather, quick-drying synthetic clothing, a swimsuit, and secure river shoes (like sandals with straps or old sneakers) are essential. For cooler weather or higher water, we provide wetsuits, splash jackets, and booties. A detailed packing list will be sent to you upon booking and can be found here.

Do I need to bring my own camping gear for multi-day trips?

No, for our standard multi-day trips, we provide high-quality camping equipment, including tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads. You are welcome to bring your own sleeping bag if you prefer, but it is not necessary.

Can I bring my camera or phone?

You may bring electronics at your own risk. Water and sand are harsh on electronics. We strongly recommend a waterproof case or bag. For serious photography, a dry bag or dry box is essential.
